Interactive Art Installation “People and the City”

On 26 October 2007.,in the city park opposite to the National Theatre “Ivan Vazov” the People and the City Interactive Art Installation has happened.

This installation “embodies” the City, its Citizens and the relation between history, architecture and the present day. The City grows according to the needs of its citizens. When we know who we are and where we come from, we would know which way to go. Be in the lights of the City, but not as a shadow, for You and the City are not grey for each other.

In the “People and the City” installation there “took part” models of 9 emblematic buildings of Sofia city. Arranged in chronological order, next to each one of them there was information about the specific architecture of the building, interesting facts about its construction and the necessity of each building during the respective historical period of the Capital.

In the center of each building model, there were white canvases spanned on frames, lit up by projectors at their back side, so that when people stood between the projector and the white canvas, “inbuilt” in the building, the person’s shadow showed on the front side of the canvas. People could then outline the silhouettes of their friends, children, parents etc. on the canvases. Everyone, who stood in front of the projectors, could stand in various postures: his/her shadow would be outlined, coloured and turned into an art-object!

Each person, who participated in the installation, rediscovered “his/her” Sofia, rediscovered him/herself and somehow went on with a feeling of better life- and self-satisfaction and with a bigger smile on his face.
