Paint the Egg – an Easter Art Installation

„Paint the Egg” is an Easter Art Installation in the open air, which took place on the 7th and 8th April 2007 on the occasion of the Easter celebrations.
In the “St. Kliment Ohridsky” garden (located between the University of Sofia and the temple-monument “St. Alexander Nevsky”), 12 giant white eggs were “laid” at the disposal of all people who passed through the garden: everybody had the possibility to take part in the painting of the 12 giant Easter eggs.

The Art Installation was meant to bring people closer to the contemporary European culture and art, offering them a modern way for celebration of the traditional Easter holidays. This event was also oriented towards creating of a sphere of more open communication between people in the dynamic environment of the city, through the spontaneous language of art. In this interactive “city Easter celebration” every person had the possibility to “find the artist in him/herself” and thus to make an own contribution to the beauty of the city of Sofia during the days of the Celebration!

Eggs were painted on Easter – that is clear. This time however they were of human size and everybody could paint on them: passers-by, artists, hidden (and obvious) talents, children, mothers, grandmothers, fathers, brothers and sisters, friends and enemies… So everybody turned the tradition into an exciting experience: let him/herself go and paint, draw, make art and thus made “his/her world” and his/her city more beautiful.

In Bulgaria such an Art Installation is done for the first time. In the other parts of United Europe however (and in other parts of the World) people often become part of similar events. Events, in which everybody can participate as he/she wants and can, in result of which together the people create something beautiful for their city! For what sense does it make if we are allthe time unhappy and unsatisfied with life… when we can create something colourful and exciting ourselves, which can bring joy to all of us!

And isn’t it true that before we see it with our eyes, the beauty is first born within us?!
